I wanted to lose that weight and get my slender body back, so I did what most of us do. I
"tried" to go on a diet. Then I
tried to go on another diet. Then I
tried again. But I was super busy, and let's be honest, I just wasn't motivated enough to last more than a few days at a time before giving up. I tried exercising, too, but I was in such lousy shape, it just seemed hopeless.
After just a few weeks, I hit a wall. I was so angry at myself for having no self-discipline and lots of excuses!
Then I realized something. I literally adopted new, automatic habits in order to gain that weight, so I needed to adopt newer and better automatic habits to lose that weight. I knew I didn't want to diet and feel like I was sacrificing. I knew I didn't want to live at the gym. What I really wanted was to tweak my lifestyle just enough to start losing weight and getting back into shape in a way that felt easy and natural, over time, one little bite-sized adjustment at a time.
I added a new workout to my daily agenda - my mental workout. No matter what else was happening - even if I had to miss a physical workout that day or eat high-fat convenience food, I made sure I spent time working on my mindset. Without realizing it, I was doing a very basic form of self-hypnosis to create my new way of life!
After I shifted my thinking and focused on my mindset, I took 4" off my waist in 4.5 weeks. I lost 35 pounds and happily gained some muscle weight. I looked and felt awesome, and I had an abundance of energy! I even ran a half-marathon through Disney World several weeks later!
